The Time Transcendent Nature of Devotion to Krishna

It is important to seek out that aspect of knowledge that transcends our time and era.

Whenever we engage in our devotional practices towards Krishna, and in how we relate it to the world and our social environment, we probably do it in contemporary terms.

We do it in relation to how the world is today, with all the applicable social and cultural issues. Poverty, free trade, AIDS, global warming, religious tensions, scientific and industrial progress, space travel and all things we can think of relating to our time.

For instance in these texts I have made reference to concepts like simulation and creation, using concepts from the computer world. If we were to find ourselves in a different era, what terms would be applicable?

The Upanishads for instance contain many verses relating to fire, heat, water etc to support these concepts, but they don't help us much as we really don't know what those substances conjured up in their minds in those times.

Consider this - if you found yourself suddenly transported to a different era, say the year 1000AD in Europe, the year 4000AD in Africa (in the future), the year 4000BC in ancient Egypt, the year 3000BC in India, how would you go about your devotion and advocacy of Krishna, in both practical and philosophical terms?

Which aspect would be applicable in those circumstances? Which ones wouldn't be?

This expresses a key aspect of Vaishnavism. What is the common core of devotion to Krishna and expression of philosopical concepts, which is applicable in whatever cultural, religious, and social circumstances we find ourselves in?

The unchangeable, immutable and eternal thread to our human consciousness that transcends time, era and circumstances. The vein of knowledge, the essential vein of consciousness, language and anthropological context that allows us to translate our concepts regardless of environment. To focus on this aspect and understand it to make progress on the path to Krishna consciousness.

In finding this vein we clarify our path to knowledge of Krishna.
