How to deal with tamasic moods

You may drop into tamasic moods every now and then, and here is a good guide to dealing with them.

Remember at all times that the tamasic moods are experiences just like any other experiences arising from activity and positive engagements are. The point here is what is to ask yourself - 'what is memorable about this state of mind, what is the Krishna within gaining from this experience, how is He involved in this experience?'

Such a state is more or less an eviction of Krishna from your life during the ensuing period. You have more or less turned of the television he is watching and turned of all the lights in the room. He could be non-existent for all practical purposes. Also remember that what you are experiencing is a sensory flux just as is your experiences in a sattvic or rajasic mood. The question is, what is worth reliving about it, if it can be relived at all?

If such a term is appropriate in a text such as this - You are feeding Him shit, you are feeding the inner soul and the divine soul within - nothing at all, food that isn't worth of ingesting at all, just food in a state of static putrefaction.

The antidote to this is get down before Krishna in a state of proper poise, sitting on your heels with your palms held together. Look at Him directly, seeing Him as a Vrishni brother, and begin to recount and recite all His positive attributes, those more related to His person as a brother, relative, well-wisher and friend, the positive attributes which made him the best of such persons, in combination His being the greatest devotee of God, of all the devotees of God, the one whose devotion was most worthy of emulation. Remember Him as someone whose desire to make conscious, deliberate commitment to ensure that in every deed He undertook He had to make it worthy Hari Prasad was second to none, both in His support for the community and His direct devotions to God.
Remember Him as someone whose motivating life philosophy, was to make His whole life's experience the best of Hari Prasad.

Do it with the utmost respect, the utmost respect for a brother whose supportiveness and devotion to God is second to none, whose conduct is most worthy of emulation, and aim to summon up and evince those traits within yourself. Then go back to the activities which you think you should be doing.
Remember afterwards that the activity was a quality experience for the Krishna within as well.

Remember your two names as a member of the G-Vrishni - Hari Prasad, and Jishnu.

 Whatever thou doest, whatever thou eatest,
   Whatever thou offerest in oblation or givest;
 Whatever austerity thou performest, son of Kunti,
   That do as an offering to Me.

It pays to carry out this practice even in times when you are not beset by such moods.

Some of the attributes worth reciting are noted below the are from Chapter 15, 1-3 of the Gita
